Newman’s Own Foundation
Feed Seven Generations was funded by the Newman’s Own Foundation to empower indigenous youth through leading educational enrichment courses.
Through this initiative, we sought to enhance the health and wellness of indigenous youth and families while strengthening local native food systems.
FEED formed a Student Ambassador Committee at Muckleshoot Schools, comprising native youth leaders. With 508 students in grades K-12, this committee shaped the project's direction with ongoing support from FEED.
Native youth voices were pivotal. Through the Student Ambassador Committee, we conducted a comprehensive assessment to identify needs and aspirations, informing internship placements related to food distribution and access.
Our goal was to deliver culturally relevant courses celebrating traditional foods and medicines during teacher in-service days and after-school programs. With elder guidance, we fostered multi-generational connections and preserved indigenous wisdom.
Building on Indigenous Strengths
Rooted in the Muckleshoot Tribe, FEED's founding members brought extensive experience, leveraging existing partnerships to enhance nutrition security for indigenous youth.
